High-Resolution Video Surveillance

TheVigil DVR supports recording from high-resolution network cameras. At right is an actual-size crop of an image from the featured IQEye IQ-501 camera. To get this clarity with a standard analog CCTV camera, you'd need a lens zoomed tightly on the rear of the vehicle, able to see only a narrow area. A high-resolution digital camera, transmitting over an IP network rather than analog video cable, captures a broader area in higher detail, allowing one camera to take the place of two, three, or more regular CCTV cameras. Click here to view the full-size 1.3MP image as captured by the IQ-501.

Shown here is an analog paypoint camera recording at CIF resolution (352x240 pixels).  Most analog DVRs and cameras max out at 4CIF (704x480) or D1 (720x480) resolution, because of limitations of the NTSC video signal - click here to view this shot at 4CIF (picture will open in a new window).

IP networks allow digital cameras to transmit video without these restrictions - click here for a sample from a 1.3MP IQ511 camera located beside the above camera.

The IQEye series of high-resolution IP cameras can be installed in most housings and locations where a standard CCTV camera would be installed. Weatherproof, vandal-resistant domes are also available.

Resolutions range from 1.3MP (1280x1024) to 5MP (2560x2048) with framerates up to 30fps.
